Guinea pig take care
Guinea pigs are social animals that prefer to live in small groups. If you keep two or more females together, they will become good friends. If you want to keep two males it is better to choose two boys from one litter. Since guinea pigs, like all rodents, breed quickly, keeping females and males together is not recommended.
A cage for guinea pigs must provide at least one and a half square meters. m. of free space for each guinea pig, however, the larger the cell, the better. The floor of the cage must be hard since the wire floor can adversely affect the state of the rodent’s paws. For guinea pigs, cages with a plastic base and wire top are well suited. Never use glass aquariums as a home for guinea pigs, as they do not provide adequate ventilation.
Always place the cage away from places with high or low temperature, guinea pigs are prone to heat shock. They prefer an ambient temperature in the range of 17-27 degrees.
Coat the base of the cage with wood chips or other safe material, such as hay. Do not use cedar or pine shavings – the oils they contain can be dangerous for rodents.
Guinea pigs can be tamed to use a tray, however, this will require a lot of time and patience!
Guinea pigs like to hide during the game; for these purposes, cardboard boxes or empty cans with smooth edges can be placed in a cage. Plastic tunnels and climbing ladders can significantly diversify the lifestyle of guinea pigs. Guinea pigs also need a place to sleep and rest, for this a medium-sized flower pot or a special container for sleeping, which can be purchased at a pet store, may be suitable.

Remove spoiled filler and stale food from the cage daily. It is recommended to completely clean the cage once a week, it is necessary to replace the dirty filler and rinse the base of the cage with water. Make sure that the base of the cell has dried well before filling it with fresh filler.
Like other rodents, guinea pig teeth grow continuously. Therefore, it is important that your rodents always have something to chew on. For this, tree branches are well suited.
It is imperative that you accustom your pets to yourself and your hands. For starters, you can give guinea pigs a small amount of hand-made treats. When they get used to it, you can begin to carefully pick them up in turn.
As soon as you tame your pigs, let them run daily in a room or in a confined space for extra exercise. Before that, you must carefully check the room or place where you are going to let your pets out for holes through which guinea pigs can escape and get lost. While guinea pigs are outside the cage, they must be controlled, as they can easily chew anything that gets in their way, including electrical wires.
Guinea pigs are very conscientious in caring for themselves, but regular combing will help remove tangled areas and keep the guinea pig’s coat in good condition. Long-haired guinea pigs should be combed daily, as their hair is easily tangled, resulting in the formation of mantles.
If you think that the guinea pig is sick, do not waste time, show it to the veterinarian immediately. Symptoms of guinea pig diseases include sneezing, coughing, diarrhea, and lethargy. However, guinea pigs are susceptible to parasites such as ticks and lice. If you think your pet is infected for treatment, contact your veterinarian.
